Most of us know that when you contract an illness or are diagnosed with a medical condition, it can take a toll on your overall health, but did you know that oral health works in the very same way? Taking care of your teeth and gums is so important because failing to do so…
Despite the fact that it’s a toxic substance, mercury is still commonly used in lots of dental applications, particularly in metal-amalgam dental fillings. While most dentists have moved on and now use composite, mercury-free fillings, some dentists still place metal-amalgam fillings that contain mercury. In addition, many older patients may have dental work that includes…
This post shows before and after photos of a failing root canal, and the ceramic implants that the patient has now.
We did some bonding on the edges after Invisalign to correct this patient’s bite, which is now much more harmonious!
Dr. Vane on the importance of continued education as a dentist, and passion for learning more about the connection of oral health & overall wellness.
Some estimates I’ve seen suggest that 613,000 people die each year from sleep apnea. Carrie Fisher died in her sleep from sleep apnea.
Wherever you find yourself this Thanksgiving, whether you’re eating turkey, tofurkey or other, we want to say thank you for being part of our family.
While it took a year to get him where he needed to be, this post features a VERY happy patient that received VERY conservative treatment.
In this case, the patient had previously gotten two old-fashioned root canals at another dentist, one of which had failed and created a nasty infection.
Dakota is very pup-ular with the pup-arazzi, so his first photoshoot went off without a pawblem.
Follow up video on the guy with a dentist that was using materials and techniques from 25 years ago and ended up making things worse.
What makes our bone grafting different at Moonlight Beach Dental? Here’s why you might care: Almost every dental office around uses materials sourced from a cadaver (or animal). One doctor I know calls it dead grandma and grandpa. Knowing that, consider: Is this what you want? Does your dentist even discuss it with you? Do…
I received the following message from a patient the other day. I really, really like receiving kind words like this.
There’s a new nutrient IV we’re offering at Moonlight Beach Dental! Now you can Vitamin C, Glutathione and B Vitamins during dental work.
Throughout the office of Moonlight Beach Dental, we have art from local Encinitas artists Dr. Yoni Whitten and LaMonte Lamoureux.
This patient felt their doctor was struggling too much at getting things right, so he came in for a second opinion.
When removing mercury from a tooth, it’s important to remove it safely. This patient wanted to be 100% positive all the mercury was removed.
In this case, the patient had a “pimple” in her gum that was actually a fistula that was filling up with infection from a root canal infection. We removed the tooth, packed it with sticky bone, and the area is now ready for a beautiful new implant.
A lot of times root canals are done poorly. They are often not properly sealed. Foreign bodies get left behind. Infections are removed properly and left to fester and get worse. This video shows you a case with all of that.
Here’s unique take on the before and after: A model of the current smile vs what’s going in to replace it tomorrow.
In this video, Dr. Vane talks about various sleep issues treatments and testing available at Moonlight Beach Dental.
In this video, Dr. Nicole Vane talks about finding hidden infections causing health problems that have gone untreated, the joy of finally fixing these long standing problems, and why she feels she could be the “next Dr. Pimple Popper”, but for teeth.
Dakota is in the office daily! Come and say hi before he leaves to complete his service dog schooling!
I think most dentists would tell you that the teeth in these photos would all need crowns, but with the right tech, you can do large fillings.
This patient’s old dentist put in a crown without proper isolation. Blood & saliva got under it, bacteria festered, & the tooth turned black!
In this video, Dr. Nicole Vane discusses how synthetic, biocompatible bone grafts can help grow new bone, and how the methods used for bone grafts at Moonlight Beach Dental typically result in a better result with faster healing. I love the start of new cases! I can’t wait to help this young lady with her bite, chipping and wear.
After 3 failed surgeries at other dentists, Dr. Vane was able to place both a successful graft and a dental implant.
This new Moonlight Beach Dental sign is really the cherry on top of our new office! We’re so legit!
Meet Dakota, a purebred cocker spaniel.
He’s going to go to school soon for his service dog training.
He is so calm and so calming. We all love him at the office!
In this video, Dr. Vane talks about how biomimetic dentistry ties into the conservative, holistic treatment approach at Moonlight Beach Dental in Encinitas.
In a new video, Dr. Vane’ shows off a new alkaline/hydrogen water system and the dental uses for alkaline/hydrogenated/ozonated water.
In this video, Dr. Vane discusses triclosan – a common additive agent in many toothpastes and hand sanitizers. There is some evidence that too much triclosan can be harmful to the good bacteria (flora) in your system.
This patient had another dentist placed a very thick veneer to mask crowding on the lower teeth. Dr. Vane used Invisalign to correct the issue rather than mask it. The results are amazing.
A patient shares some kind words on Facebook. @dentiphoto on Instagram always posts some excellent dental images.
Here’s a smile makeover in progress! Stay tuned for the final result, but I think you can see where this is going…
Over the weekend, I read The St. Therese Prayer by Minnie Louise Haskins. It will be my daily mantra as I enter my 45th year.
If you are planning on getting a mercury filling removed, you might be wondering what your dentist does to keep you safe during the procedure.
This looks kind of gross. It seems the patient’s previous doctor did a root canal and shoved the rubber filling material into the bone.
A great before and after case study that highlights a creative way to use veneers and bonding to close gaps between teeth.
Another before and after case study here. See the chipped and worn teeth? These were all fixed without any anesthetic!
We fixed a chip on the edge and the gap in between. This patient was thrilled with the outcome! And almost no numbing was required!
Here’s some photos of the new office. If you haven’t had a chance to visit the new office since Moonlight Beach Dental moved, this set of photos will let you take a look around! We’re wrapping things up this week up so we can open next week. I can’t wait to show off the new space!
This video talks about many of the amazing things that ozone therapy helps with in a dental setting.
But dentistry is still EXPENSIVE. That’s why we created a membership plan that is a better alternative to dental insurance.
Stay tuned for an announcement about a new beginning – and a new location for Moonlight Beach Dental that launches in June!
With a patient-specific, health-oriented philosophy, treatment for periodontal therapy is different at Moonlight Beach Dental.
Look at the gross growth off of the side of this extracted tooth. It’s comprised of some really terrible bacteria.
Let’s continue with this week’s What the Yuck series! Here’s the story of a poor lady that had extreme pain around her root canal.
This is NOT a zombie prop from The Walking Dead. This extraction was cultured for fungus, and tons of other pathogens!
In April, we gave away $50,000 worth of dentistry to patients that are underserved or going through challenging times.
In this video, I talk about some of the things that make Moonlight Beach Dental different.
One of those things is a focus on overall health and wellness, and attention to things that most dental offices ignore.
Another thing is convenience.
In this video, I discuss vulnerability, particularly with relation to how much I’ve suffered with autoimmune disease.
Dr. Vane was named one of the Top Dentists in San Diego by San Diego Magazine. She also has this impressive-looking Dentist of The Year award!
This patient was unhappy with her smile. Now it makes her look 10 years younger! Check out the before and after photos.
Here’s a great example of how all the modern technology we use can really heal bone quickly in preparation for placement of a new dental implant.
This patient was using Zyrtec & Flonase to treat congestion in the sinus, but an infected tooth had caused inflammation in the sinus!
Moonlight Beach Dental is an unrestricted provider with Delta Dental. That means you can come here & we accept Delta Dental, and they will reimburse you directly for your visit (instead of us).
Zirconia is actually a ceramic, and the body tends to adapt really quickly to the zirconia implant – it tends to be more biocompatible. Zirconia has a high fracture-resistance, it doesn’t corrode, and it has a high longevity due to wear-resistance.
Here’s some before and after photos of a patient that had Invisalign and some (no-prep and no-numbing) bonding to restore her enamel.
The photo here represents about 1/4 of my supplements.
We’ve got some homeopathy in there to reduce inflammation and stress, and supplements to support my thyroid, detox, and mitochondria!
Check out these selfies of our beloved team member Sam. On the left, that’s her before pic. On the right, after just 10 months of Invisalign.
In this video, Dr. Vane talks about how she practices intermittent fasting to help with her autoimmune issues.
A client had some facial scarring from a dog bite, so I treated him to some scar reduction by using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and our advanced laser.
Lately, other than experiencing some nighttime fatigue, I have been feeling pretty good. Yesterday, autoimmune symptoms started flaring up.
March is Women’s History Month. I wanted to take an opportunity to identify some women in history that have been an inspiration to me: Harriet Tubman, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton.
Dr. Vane talks more about autoimmune issues, with a focus on adrenal fatigue.
Adrenal fatigue is like a rocket ship that burns off all of it’s fuel on takeoff.
When this patient first came in, she had one of her front teeth completely off at the gumline.
Now, in these after photos, can you even tell which tooth is the fake one?
On March 18, Moonlight Beach Dental turned 7 years old. I can’t believe it’s been that long already! What does the future hold? We’re growing.
March is national Autoimmune Disease Awareness Month, and Dr. Vane is continuing a series talking about her own history with autoimmune.
It feels so good to be loved by our patients! We received these on Friday with an amazing note of support!
If anyone wants to donate masks, PPE, water, or more to Mexico, please let me know. We’re making a huge difference.
March is national Autoimmune Disease Awareness Month. In this post, I want to talk about autoimmune, and some of the challenges I face.
I recently found out about Broken Tooth Brewing. As a dentist, naturally I love the name of the company and the beers (See the image below).
Here’s an interesting before and after. This is a young guy who had very heavy wear on his teeth.
In the end, we seated veneers for him.
Look at this smile transformation! The crowding on the lower was treated in just under 1 year, just in time for her wedding! She is thrilled with the results!
These women are so much fun, and there’s so much harmony in working with them!
What is sticking out of the end of this tooth?
Those are instruments/files used to clean out the inside of the tooth for a traditional root canal. Except the dentist that did this root canal pushed them well beyond the end of the tooth, didn’t tell the patient, and the tooth needed to be extracted.
The pink area you see in this photo is the sinus. The yellow is the pus filled pocket (centimeters wide) filled with an infection from a tooth that had no symptoms 2 weeks ago!
Ceraroot implant / zirconia ceramic implant. I will posting a lot more content about this in the future. Check out the benefits Moonlight Beach Dental offers you. Save money at the dentist with The Moonlight Beach Dental Savings Plan. Schedule your consultation or request an appointment online.
Sometimes I feel like the Dr. Pimple Popper of dentistry. I have a friend who tells me all the time that I should do a TV show. This past Monday, I removed a big cyst. The patient had some (traditional) root canals and a crown done a few years ago at another dentist. He had…
In one of his final Jeopardy episodes, the late Alex Trebek called upon viewers to build a gentler, kinder society.
I like that idea, and I like pitching in a little bit when I can!
This tooth came out along with green, granular particles that came out in chunks.
You see it stuck at the apex of the tooth?
Something good is in the works!
Stay tuned for exciting news from MBD!
Check out how dental infections absolutely destroy bone. This may have even been the reason for this person’s death!
Happy Valentine’s Day from Moonlight Beach Dental!
We love teeth. We love what we do. And we love our patients.
One of our lovely dental hygienists is giving out Cocofloss valentines today! I love the product, & the idea of a tooth-related valentine.
These two were cleaning each others teeth on their lunch hour! It’s awesome to have a team that loves what they do and loves working together!
This cross section of a tooth shows how a root canal performed the old, traditional way can lead to bacterial leakage and failure.
Let’s play a game. Where in San Diego am I? Your prize is respect! I’m trying to support the small businesses that I can during the pandemic.
Moonlight Beach Dental has some very big (positive) changes happening. The first is a brand new logo. Marvel yonder!
This patient didn’t like the narrowing of her arch, and how everything looked shoved forward before. But it was perfect in just 12 months.
This is Shannon, a personal trainer here in Encinitas. Needless to say, Shannon is in excellent shape, but she always felt very self-conscious about her smile -so much so that when she smiled, she never did so fully – opting to hide them behind her bottom lip!
When her fiance found out about this, he decided nothing should keep her from having a big smile, so he came to me and bought her Invisalign for her birthday.
Sam has grown and contributed so much to our patients with her kind and helpful demeanor. Her Invisalign is almost done!
I love Sonicare toothbrushes. The Philips One starts at $25. Anyone can afford to step into the electric toothbrush world!
A lot of our patients are concerned about the environment like I am. Here are some great dental products that fit the bill.
A friend told me she had “great dental insurance” that “covers everything”. So I checked it out. The photo here shows exactly what she gets.
Moonlight Beach Dental is worldwide!
Here’s photos of round 1 and 2 of my mask and water donations to Mexico!
A huge success!
An infection brewed for a long time after this patient got a root canal at another dentist.
The root canal actually looked okay on the x-ray, but look at the picture in the upper right of the tooth after I took it out…
If you’re like most people, you resolve to improve your overall health, fitness and diet in a new year.
With the pandemic upon us, gyms are closed. Weights and workout equipment are now largely sold out online.
I have a great resource for you: You can subscribe to this YouTube channel.
The crowns pictured here were done 5 years ago at an old-fashioned dentist’s office that’s highly insurance-driven.
Moonlight Beach Dental still takes your PPO dental insurance plan, but is no longer in-network with any dental insurance carrier. Here’s why.
This patient had decay that kissed the nerve in 3 places. With laser decay removal and a one-day crown, the tooth is still happy.
This patient had a small accident and fractured her previous crown into pieces. I made her a new permanent tooth in less than 2 hours!
Some are here, some are there… The good news is we can fix that for you, painlessly and easily. Talk to us about clear aligners.
2020 really felt like a year where the world was taken over by an alien invasion.
I’m looking forward to 2021. I’m hoping the new year will be filled with health, less stress, enlightenment, and no aliens.
Recently donated some bags of scrubs and faceshields to help in Mexico.
Other types of insurance (car, homeowners, medical, etc.) cover you like a security blanket. Dental insurance will *usually* get you a discount on common services.
If you’re still looking for a perfect gift, I might have something for you. Moonlight Beach Dental is offering $500 off Invisalign
Chilling at home, doing a hand treatment to keep my most valuable dental tools thriving and healthy.
I’m excited to be taking out and replacing teeth today, so I wanted to run you through the process for this same-day case.
You know it’s going to be a great day when you and your team are matching and dressed for success!
That’s a piece of coral embedded in a rock.
When I see it, I see a tooth. It’s clearly a tooth, right?
Some distant beach, somewhere on planet Earth.
This guy has so much tartar, he doesn’t have to dip his fishsticks in anything. Removing this level of tartar is really satisfying!
Dr. Vane and family would like to wish you the happiest and safest of holidays.
As a dentist, a beer called The Amalgamator caught my eye. An American IPA by Beachwood Brewing, it has a score of 96 at Beer Advocate.the a
Sometimes teeth can be dead and/or infested with harmful bacteria – but you’d never know because the infection is below the gums.
This year, we’ve got one big special that runs from Black Friday until the end of 2020: $500 off Invisalign (Full Case).
We received this gift today from someone expressing gratitude for our team.
We’re grateful for our team and our patients, our health, and with the positive things happening to wrap up the challenge that was 2020.
If you have dental insurance, use your benefits before the end of the year – before you go out of town for the holidays!
This patient came into Moonlight Beach Dental for a second opinion. That decision ended up saving her a lot of money, time, and her tooth!
I’m stoked on this gourmet / high-end / designer toothpaste! The salesperson assured me I’d have the cleanest my teeth would ever feel.
This lovely patient was very unhappy with her bonding on the front teeth and the discolored lower teeth. See before & after photos.
Tooth extraction methodology at Moonlight Beach Dental invovles an advanced laser and PRF to accelerate healing.
It’s been 6 months since I installed the advanced air filtration system we have in the office, and look at what we were breathing before!
I flew in the top laser root canal specialist so my team could learn the latest in innovative holistic techniques for root canals.
Recently, I flew in the famous Dr. Zaremski so my team could get some in-office training on ozone & exosome therapy.
It’s always great to learn from the best!
It’s always a good time to thank those who’ve served, so today is as good as any other day!
Thank you for your service Daniel!
Ever feel your life is in synchronicity? Ever feel that your thoughts align neatly with the universe, and we can draw to us and create what we need?
Three images which explain tooth decay simply and illustrate the importance of early treatment to avoid pain and save money.
It sucks to lose a tooth. But sometimes your teeth are failing and you don’t even know it!
During COVID, a bacterial mat grew at the tip of the root (that we can not reach or see with instruments) and grew to a larger infection.
What if you decided to do things differently? In a way, everything you’ve learned in the past was just experience building toward your current processes.
A couple weeks ago, I was learning about advanced root canals for 3 days of intensive study under microscopes!
In this video, Sam discusses her results with Invisalign after just 5 months.
We recently got photos taken for some of our current 2020 team, and I must say – these are some good-looking people!
Just another day taking out wisdom teeth without trauma, using our laser, ozone and PRF.
When our patients love us like we love them.
This is why we do what we do!
Over the years, I’ve had a handful of dentists confront me for removing amalgam (mercury fillings) by patient request.
What? You have an emergency?
I got you.
I may be in a hat and flip flops, but Sunday, I am here for you if you have a broken front tooth!
Yesterday was Annie’s birthday, and the whole team helped her celebrate with lunch, cake and flowers!

2 new videos featuring Diana of Moonlight Beach Dental Encinitas. She discusses her own smile transformation and how it changed her life.
This patient is young and ground his teeth down.
We’ve been moving his teeth subtlety with Invisalign to correct the deep bite and to create clearance so that when we restore the tooth length we will not have to drill the teeth down.
Today we did laser re-contouring and a full arch mock up try in that he can wear for a few weeks to test the new bite! we really lengthened the teeth and we want to test drive the esthetics, function and phonetics!
The Sandwich Spot in Encinitas, moved.
But now it can be delivered!

I’m needing to rotate my respirators lately, due to welts on my face, TMJ pain, dry mouth, and headaches from wearing them all day at work.
Check out this new one! I hope you recognize me the next time you see me.
They used to call me Vane… Now they call me Bane!
I’m so excited to stock these new supplements that help with energy, detox and immune health: Lipsomal Methyl Charge,+, NAD+ Gold & D3K2.
When a tooth is significantly decayed and infected, it needs to be extracted. But what is done with the huge hole where the tooth used to be?
You’re in the right place if you want PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) or PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin)!
PRF & PRP is a new technology where your own blood is spun in a centrifuge to make materials that are 100% compatible with your body (since they are made from your own blood).
I truly love working side-by-side with such a smart, caring and talented person.
Diana really makes work so enjoyable each day!
After an extracting these wisdom teeth, PRF (similar to stem cells) from the patient’s own blood was used to help him heal faster.
A fractured tooth required extraction (hence the “bruise”). Less than an hour later, a new “pontic” tooth was bonded in.
A single CBCT scan provided a larger picture of multiple issues this patient has. You don’t have to be a dentist to see some of them here.
This patient had a worn smile & a snaggletooth crown. After just 6 months, we gave her a perfect smile. She looks 15 years younger.
During a routine CBCT full mouth scan, we discovered a huge infection on this patient. The tooth roots were completely blown apart with infection.
This patient wasn’t feeling well. She told me she had previously gotten a root canal at another dentist, but now she wanted a out for health reasons. What we found was pretty surprising.
This patient has very white teeth and hated his chip on a front tooth and the other front turning dark from childhood trauma.
We veneered the dark one and did a little bonding to fix the chip and in a few hours he was out the door with a new smile.
Dr. Vane always tries to make healthy nutrition choices. Here’s some of the food and drinks she has been enjoying lately.
Let’s play a game: If you don’t happen to be a dentist or physician, I bet you can still see what’s wrong in the x-rays here. All is revealed in this post.
We now have 5pm evening appointments available.
If your schedule is such that you just can’t get in for an appointment during the day, call (760) 632-0320 to make your evening appointment.
Ever been to the dentist and received a surprise bill later because your dental insurance would not cover the whole thing? Here’s why.
We’re proud to offer specialized air filtration which has a nice, breezy, calming sound.
There are also televisions in each operatory that help your mind relax and focus on beautiful nature scenes.
Treat yourself to a different experience!
We are now milling same-day zirconia crowns right here in the office.
Zirconia crowns offer you the HUGE advantage of being virtually unbreakable. They also will not wear or chip.
Yes, that’s a tooth-shaped earring. My ears are burning. Did you say you need smile design? Holistic treatments? Give me a holler!
I made this new video about holistic root canals specifically for my holistic patients. The holistic community is often wholly opposed to the traditional, old-fashioned (and painful) way of doing root canals, due to studies done many decades ago by Price-Pottenger and Hal Huggins.
At Valentina, a rare night out dining al fresco. So excited to support local business, and enjoy a night out. I felt like we were in Spain.
Standard, traditional root canals use a filling material called gutta percha. We offer the modern laser root canal method and a bioceramic sealer.
Who is making hypochlorous acid for fogging and sterilizing the rooms? We are!
Is it going to melt through the floors like in Alien? Nope, that’s slightly different.
Hypochlorous acid is widely used as a disinfectant, and it’s highly effective against viral, fungal and bacterial pathogens.
Is our TV big enough? That’s a 55 inch television. TVs are in the ceiling also. Going to the dentist is now more fun than staring at the ceiling!
Holistic dentistry means your dentist considers the effects of dental work on your overall health. This video reviews some of the benefits to you.
Some patients develop allergies to metal posts in repaired teeth. This can leech out into the tooth. Even worse: It can fracture the teeth!
Many dentists still do root canals like they live in the dark ages. Many don’t even know that they can be done nearly painlessly with a laser.
Is this tooth smiling? No! This is a sad tooth, showing a botched root canal. See how we fixed this.
I’ve talked with new patients who like wearing face masks simply because they are so insecure about and unhappy with their teeth and smiles.
In this new video, I cover some of the ways Moonlight Beach Dental is so different from other dental offices – in ways that people don’t typically expect.
Just a friendly reminder: Your smile is your greatest accessory. If you find yourself staying at home more during the COVID crisis, it’s a great get some of that personal change going that you’ve always wanted to do anyway. We’ve got specials for $500 off full cases of Invisalign and Sure Smile teeth straightening running…
Insoluble fiber is converted to short chain fatty acids (like acetate, propionate, and butyrate) that can boost your overall immunity.
Kiddo here is giving his best ice cream headache / Gene Simmons impression!
I love our patients. And we all love Handel’s Ice Cream.
Materials for crowns & fillings should last years, if not decades. Due to supply issues, more dentists might be using cheap (not quality) ingredients.
Specials running through July 2020: Invisalign or SureSmile Teeth Straightening: $500 off full cases. Teeth Whitening: $100 off.
I love being able to do one-day dentistry! This patient was able to get a root canal, crown, filling and cleaning in a single visit.
With this one tip, you can save thousands of dollars on dental crowns in your lifetime. Sometime in the future, you’re probably going to need a dental crown. If you’ve got a crown in the past, you know it’s not inexpensive or fun. But what really hurts is when you have to pay to replace…
This patient used to hide her face when she smiled. Not now! A before & after smile makeover case with videos instead of photos.
It’s Toxic Thursday! Check this out: This patient had 2 root canals completed in the past year at another dentist. After each of those, she had constant inflammation in her mouth. Look at the spotting on the roof of the mouth: Tap/Click to embiggen. The x-ray didn’t really show much to help with diagnosis: Tap/Click…
This photo by Juliherme Andrade illustrates the old-fashioned and obsolete way of doing root canals – that many (if not most) dentists still perform!
This patient discusses some veneers at another dentist, and the problems they gave him. This is why your dentist should work WITH you on veneers.
Compared to titanium, zirconia dental implants are non-corrosive, bacteria-resistant, more biocompatible, and have no discoloration at the gumline.
This guy had a broken tooth, but started a new job in 2 days. No problem! He was stoked we could fix everything in one day,
This patient was congenitally missing teeth and wanted them restored for a landmark birthday! Check out the transformation!
This patient didn’t like his old veneers from another dentist. They were the wrong shape and size, and someone tried to correct his crowding by making the teeth overly bulbous to appear straight.
We were able to correct the veneers and give him a natural contour and color. He said he forgot what it was like to have teeth that “feel real”.
When we were open during the COVID shut down, it became really clear that Moonlight Beach Dental is now a one-stop shop for all your dental needs.
In this video, I discuss a patient that is immunocompromised due to his undergoing chemotherapy and medication routines to treat cancer.
He also has a pus-leaking, recurrent (dental) abscess for over a year.
There is a connection between the mouth and the body.
In my opinion, it’s important to treat and fix long-standing infections which can strain your immune system, so that your body can focus on healing other things.
Via the use of a Dentist Barbie doll from 1997, my kid explains what I do all day at Moonlight Beach Dental.
Sounds like he’s got my number!
This patient looked me up and found me because I was her dentist 10 years ago. Since then, she had gotten veneers at another dentist. When she came to see me in Encinitas a few weeks ago, she has a few requests: She let me know that she never liked the color on those veneers. …
Sam’s never had braces, but thanks to Dr. Vane, she started getting her teeth straightened with SureSmile Aligners.
As Dr. Vane notes in the video above, the old way that orthodontists would handle this would be to remove 4 bicuspids. With the SureSmile Aligners, Sam gets to keep all her teeth.
This case turned out awesome. It involved partial veneers, teeth whitening to correct tetracycline staining, and Invisalign. What a change!
Spring is almost over. June is here, and Summer is around the corner.
It’s just in time too, because after the extended shelter-in-place, it’s time to get outside.
If you’re not wearing a mask 24/7, maybe it’s time to spruce up your smile and present a new you to the world.
Moonlight Beach Dental focuses on biocompatible materials (meaning they will work with your body), so you can heal faster.
In this video, Gigi discusses a case where previous dentists weren’t able to the issues the patient had. After a CBCT scan, everything was identified.
In this video, I’m doing a little custom staining of teeth, so I can characterize the teeth to match perfectly and blend in with the rest.
I’ve been busy during COVID. Last week, 4 people with front tooth emergencies had the same story: Their regular dentist wouldn’t return their call.
As of today, May 18th, Moonlight Beach Dental is open for all services – not just emergencies!
Make your appointment ASAP, as we are filling up quickly… a lot of people missed their office teeth cleanings, since we were previously open for emergencies only.
Dr. Vane has a history of being mercury toxic and very sensitive to mercury. In this video she discusses her personal mercury detox regimen.
Remember being a kid and seeing shapes that the clouds made?
Well, that’s a toothbrush in the sky. Must be a sign that Moonlight Beach Dental is reopening for non-emergency visits soon!
There are two things that I really love for accelerated healing: One is platelet-rich fibrin (or PRF) and the other is ozone.
I tried the new Prager Brothers Artisan Breads Bakey here in Encinitas. I’m gluten intolerant, but their wheat is processed in-house and is less allergenic.
Last week, a friend texted me because she had bitten her tongue badly. The bleeding didn’t seem to want to stop. Here’s what I told her to do.
It’s a tiny-sized testimonial sent to us by a spectacular lady.
She lives 6 hours away from Moonlight Beach Dental, and she flies in to have us take care of her teeth!
Treated the entire team to COVID testing today! If you have no symptoms of for COVID but still want to get tested, there is a testing station in Encinitas.
Here’s a video that shows just how well the dental air vacuum works.
May the 4th be with you! Gone are the dark times of painful, ineffective and old-fashioned root canals. The laser-based method is 100% painless and far superior at cleaning out the wretched hive of scum and villainy in your canal.
We’ve been open for dental emergencies this whole time, but not for regular checkups and visits.
It looks like Governor Newsom has pushed back the date to start bringing patients in for regular recare and cleaning visits. But rest assured we are ready with extra precautions. And we’re ready to treat our patients who we miss dearly!
What is this magical elixir? That’s a fresh mint and passionfruit mojito from our garden! Does it have alcohol? Yes.
I usually bring my lunch, but during COVID, I’ve been out supporting local businesses by buying my team lunch every day!
I wish I took this one out… A friend of mine removed it a few weeks ago. Looks like fungus. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Shooting videos today to let everyone know about our COVID safety precautions and new procedures we’ve added.
I recently posted some of my own immune system boosting tips. But what do we do to boost the immune system of our kiddos? We trick them!
2 years ago, I made a video on how to reattach a crown with Elmer’s Glue when a dentist is not available. I had no idea this video would become so popular.
Here I discuss some symptoms of being mercury toxic, and some of the things that you can about it.
Many, if not most holistic dentists make the universal claim that “all” root canals are bad. What they are referring to is the old-fashioned technique.
Until there was pain, the patient didn’t know there was a big infection in a tooth. The previous dentist never said anything about it to the patient
I’ve been blessed with a healthy immune system. I haven’t been sick or missed a day of work in the past 17 years.
In this video, I share some tips that have worked for me to support that.
No need to worry about it. Everyone is using safe practices at MBD! Read more about what we are doing to stay safe!

Ozone creates ozonides and oxides – mostly a free radical oxygen – and that oxygen can break the lipid barrier coating on the virus capsule so it essentially kills and oxidizes the virus on contact.
If you don’t have access to ozone, you can also use different forms of peroxide. Food-grade peroxide can also kill the lipid coating on the virus, and most of our cleaners we use here in the office are peroxide-based for that reason.

Come to Moonlight Beach Dental for the latest in fashion.
Every 5 minutes this machine produces perfectly surgically-clean air. It’s able to filter down to the particle size of the COVID virus which is 0.016.
Many dentists & dental offices in Encinitas are closed during the COVID-19 Coronavirus Epidemic. Moonlight Beach Dental is open for dental emergencies – by appointment only.
In this video, I want to review the special infection control measures that we have at the office to keep you safe during this crisis.
Here’s a follow up video with Daniel, after just 2 years of Invisalign.
We previously posted his dramatic before and after photos.
Is that baby Billy Idol? No! We have an air filtration system from Surgically Clean Air. It removes viruses, particles including odors, allergens, gases, mold, and bioaerosols.
I see posts all the time on NextDoor and Facebook from people who have moved to a new town or city, and they’re looking for recommendations for a new dentist.
Here are 3 simple things to look for when you are looking for a dentist, so that you can avoid unnecessary pain and suffering and save yourself both time and money.
When people focus on finding a cheap, discount, bargain dentist first and foremost, it can end up costing them up to 4x more money. Here’s why.
Some people on Facebook love to try and bait me to argue with them that they can go across the Mexican border to get cheap dental work that is “great”.
Of course, these people are simply wrong. There’s no point in arguing with them, because what do I know? I’m just a dentist that graduated at the top of my class from Tufts, and I’ve fixed hundreds of cases of poor dental work from other dentists.
With so many concerns about health right now, I thought I could share some useful information about ozone.
(Sticky) The world just isn’t going to be normal for a while. You can feel safe visiting Moonlight Beach Dental with safety technology that exceeds CDC guidelines. This includes Surgically-Clean Air with extra oxidization via ozonated air circulation.
Between the roots on this molar, that’s a sac of pus. Incredible the things that we can find when using 3D imaging / CBCT.
Fifty years ago, if a dentist told you that you needed a root canal, it was really bad news for you. It meant you were in for a very painful and traumatic procedure, where the dentist drill open your tooth before using little metal instruments to ream out the inside of the tooth repeatedly. Needless to say, it hurt a lot and it was a very traumatic. Doesn’t that sound barbaric? Shockingly, that’s still how most dentists do root canals today.
But what if we told you there was a new, modern way that not only provided superior cleaning of the canals, but it was also totally painless?
This patient hated the crowns she had for over 15 years. As you can see in the before photo, the crowns were over-contoured. Her gums were constantly infected, painful, and quite often bled.
Don’t let fear of a drive keep you from getting healthy, there are different ways to get to Moonlight Beach Dental.
You can always hop on the Coaster and it will drop you off literally right above the office!
Does your dentist look at your overall health, or just your teeth?
We look at everything! In fact that’s exactly what it means to be a holistic dentist: Having a patient’s overall health in mind.
Over the weekend, I read an interesting article in the New York Times.
In short, the some scientists believe that the lead aprons used in x-ray rooms to protect the parts of the body not being imaged from radiation may not actually be necessary.
When you’re done staring, let me educate you on one what’s going on here:
See that long dangling bit on one of the roots of this tooth?
That’s a hidden infection coming from an old (failing) root canal.
Just wanted to share this photo of the 3 doctors at Moonlight Beach Dental.
From left to right: Dr. Vane, Dr. “Bre” Barrineau, and Dr. Polan.
Come see Gigi and Dr. Polan at the office.
You’ll be greeted by two of the sweetest people!
Dr. Polan is a well-respected doctor and Cerec specialist.
On Saturday, we went to Death By Tequila.
I love to support neighbors and local Encinitas businesses.
The entire menu is gluten-free!
Love my Encinitas vibe tribe!
This patient was too young to get a final implant, but she HATED her smile. In a few hours we moved her gum tissue up with the laser and milled a new tooth!
If you thinking about all-zirconia dental implants, you should know that the tissue really loves them.
Most dentists and oral surgeons do not know how to place or restore them, and many people consider them more holistically-friendly and biocompatible than titanium.
Hey there, some good news for everyone: We’ve expanded our hours for 2020.
This will allow us to see more of you during the most popular days and times during the week.
I’m focused on my 2020 goals: Exciting changes here at the office, extra education and training for the team, new technology, new procedures, & more.
This patient had a porcelain backed on metal crown. It was done just a year ago at another dental office.
Non-precious metals caused severe tissue inflammation.
CBCT offers you superior diagnostic abilities. In general, cutting-edge 3D & 2D CBCT technology allows you and the dentist to see pretty much everything.
I roasted an organic chicken and then used the bones to make a bone broth.
No new year’s resolution – I just always like to protect my gut (my second immune system) all year!
I do love the optimism that most people have at the beginning of a new year, so I’m going to land on Team Hello 2020.
At the end of the old decade and at the beginning of the new one, I think maybe it’s an appropriate time to see things with more clarity – with 20/20 vision.
This patient had a removable tooth for a decade that broke on December 23rd. We milled and bonded in a non-removable tooth out of porcelain in one visit.
Too many of our patients want to get in before year-end and we will be open many days between Christmas and New Years!
My favorite holiday character is Hermey, one of Santa’s elves who wants to be a dentist, from the 1964 television special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Take advantage of our year-end specials and get the chance to fund your HSA next year for future treatment!
Everybody’s gearing up for the holidays. In the midst of it all, I have a few things I wanted to remind everyone about.
Our 3D CBCT x-ray machine was delivered this week. I’m really excited about this tool. It can help find hidden infections and assist with guided surgeries.
If and when you find yourself being told you need a root canal, you really should consider talking to us about doing the procedure.
Why?
Because this drill-free, laser method can be performed without trauma and pain.
This method also provides far better decontamination of the root canal system – almost to the point of sterilization. This greatly reduces your chances of having a reinfection later.
Making yummy bone broth to keep my gut and immune system healthy over the winter!
It’s easy! Carrots, EVOO, onions, celery, Mediterranean sea salt and organic bones!
This patient wanted Invisalign for the sole reason of fixing his bite. He recognized that he was chipping and wearing his teeth.
But, we did it, and in less than the 18 months he was told elsewhere. Everything was completed in just 9 months!
Ah, the holiday season is upon us. Instead of making some specials available for the few days following Thanksgiving (Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc) we just wanted to throw a few specials out there that are good for the rest of the year!
This before and after case study shows a dramatic result from Invisalign in just 18 months.
I’m sad that Oh! Juice closed their Encinitas location across the street from our office – but I am loving Choice Juicery, who took over the spot!
Getting some fall flavors in a cool smoothie with adaptogens, anti inflammatories and protein to slay the day!
They used to call me Dr. Vane. Now they call me Spicy Nicole!
We’ve got an Indian summer, but we’re still fired up for fall!
Check out our coffee and tea bar at the office with the new hot chaga mushroom elixir tea if you’re in the mood for adaptogens instead of caffeine.
We pride ourselves on the fact we don’t look or feel like a dental office: Fresh flowers and spa water, Peet’s fresh coffee.
If you’ve been told that you need a root canal, you might consider getting a second opinion… because you might not actually need to go through that procedure.
The trick is finding a modern dentist with the training and technology to remove the decay and heal the nerve.
Bone healing is important. If you’re having a tooth extracted, a root canal or an implant placed, know that these two vitamins can increase the success of healing by 300%.
I’ve really been looking forward to this video being done, and now it’s here!
I wanted to make a video highlighting some of the key benefits that Moonlight Beach Dental offers people.
At the same time, the video highlights Moonlight Beach Dental’s whole-body, biologic philosophy – meaning that since teeth are connected to the body, dental health can effect overall health.
In the photo here, a large cavity from the wisdom tooth was pressing on the back of the second molar causing a cavity we couldn’t reach. It was so deep it was almost to the nerve.
A friend sent me this photo she took on her trip in Morocco. In many areas of the world, access to proper dental care is limited by a number of socioeconomic factors.
While I’ve never seen a gentleman like this guy selling teeth at Kobey’s Swap Meet, I realize that many in the US neglect their dental health for many reasons: financial, fear, and sometimes plain ignorance. Often it’s a mix of these reasons.
What if you could see what having a smile makeover would look like, without a dentist even touching your teeth?
This patient was bothered about his smile for years.
Using a digital smile design, without numbing or even touching his teeth, we were able to produce this virtual smile!
Your gut health can impact the overall acidity of your mouth. If you have enamel that is rapidly dissolving, know that there’s a lot you can do about it.
I recently created a benefit-driven print booklet primarily for local Encinitas/Carlsbad doctors, naturopaths, chiropractors & holistic practitioners, who often need a dentist that can cater to very specific requirements and patient concerns.
You can now pay your Moonlight Beach Dental bill online.
Simply go to our web site, then click on For Patients > Pay Your Bill in the main navigation.
Have areas in your teeth where decay is starting? We offer a remineralization agent that can help to make your weakened enamel stronger.
This patient had gray teeth from tetracyline staining. This typically can’t be whitened, but here’s how we did it. Also, we used bonding to repair erosion without removing enamel.
This patient had a tooth on a retainer that broke.
She couldn’t get an implant due to spacing, so we bonded in a tooth that was affixed to the back of her two adjacent teeth.
No drilling. No numbing. No removable tooth!
Yikes! This here is a photo of a cracked tooth.
Losing a tooth can be emotional and can give a huge sense of loss to patients.
It’s not uncommon for me to see cases like this – where people have fractured otherwise healthy teeth by clenching, grinding or issues with their bite.
A before and after case on a 10-year old dental bridge

Wanted to share this little yummy vegan organic treat I got over at at Oh! Juice.
Great place to have a team meeting over lunch.
I’m grateful to have so many healthy food choices so close to our office!
Super excited about my Arbonne (anti-aging) beauty box. It’s free of any toxins, and all natural. I LOVE the way it makes my skin feel.
A patient brought in some samples for me, and I did not expect to fall in love with it! I liked Rodan and Fields, but it’s not all natural and toxin-free.
I’m sensitive to blue screen light. And I am very guilty of looking at my screens leading up to bedtime. That’s why I’m rocking some new blue light glasses.
You probably love coffee (and red wine) as much as I do. Concerned about your teeth being stained?
As a dentist, I’ll give you some tips on how to reduce staining, as well as some options for whitening your teeth every now and then.
Surprise visit from the kiddo last week!
Of course we went to Handel’s for ice cream.
No wonder he loves coming to my office!
Here’s a great podcast about the daily toxic materials we are exposed to that can cause much of autoimmune disease. How can we detox?
Heavy metals are high on the list – cadmium, lead, mercury… and most of the heavy metals used in old-fashioned dentistry.
I am sad to announce that on Wednesday, the world lost a true angel and unicorn. Our dog, Foster Douglas has passed.
Many of you knew Foster from the office. He was there to greet you, sit happily with you, and he offered emotional support to patients who needed it during procedures.
I’m reading AcciDental Blow Up in Medicine, a book about the hidden effects of failing dental work & parasites which can cause long-term unresolving illnesses.
I love ice cream, but I have REALLY sensitive teeth. It can be hard for me to eat ice cream or even have cold drinks. But, this can be treated!
Come in and enjoy some fresh air.
I’ve added extra air purification to our rooms in order to make sure you breathe only the finest.
Moonlight Beach Dental has the ability, equipment and the experience to safely remove mercury fillings. This is important since the levels of mercury vapor created by this procedure frequently exceed the safety thresholds of several jurisdictions and agencies. Not every dentist is trained to remove mercury safely. In the photos below here, the mercury filling…
Healthy snacks for the kiddo: Pressed Juicery in the Carlsbad Forum.
Vegan, sugar-free frozen treats with fresh fruit.
Kiddo loved it, while I had my cold-pressed juice.
Silver nitrate and silver diamine fluoride are becoming popular in dental offices because they can be used to KILL bacteria and halt decay.
My new obsession is Pressed Juicery, because it is so affordable. 8 drinks for $38 or a cleanse for $39.50.
As someone who regularly spends $12 per juice, this is a steal! You can order them online, or pick them up at the UTC mall.
Whenever I travel, I have my glass or stainless steel drinking containers with me.
It’s crazy to lug though an airport or all over town in my purse – but avoiding BPA and plastics is important to me.
Antimony (a toxic heavy metal) can be released into plastic water bottles.
I wanted to post about a couple dietary supplements that I love: Alpha Lipoic Acid and Coconut Oil – and some of the studies and evidence that suggest what they are useful for.
In July, a study published in The Journal of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology found that drilling dental amalgam generates particulate that volatilizes significant amounts of mercury vapor generally for more than an hour after removal. The levels of mercury vapor created by this procedure frequently exceed the safety thresholds of several jurisdictions and agencies.
In other words, you really want to find a dentist trained to remove amalgam safely.
Holistic patients often don’t want to keep anything dead in the body. Because standard root canals usually leave behind a dead ligament, they are often told not to get a root canal. But if they have a tooth that needs a root canal, that is also a dead or dying tooth. So what to do? So many patients of my holistic patients are confused over this issue.
Followers of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine believe that each tooth is associated with a particular meridian – an area through which energy flows and is interconnected with other parts of the body.
There’s a meridian tooth chart here that’s pretty cool and fun to play around with.
If this chart is something that’s important to you and you want us to take these things into consideration, we are happy to accommodate.
Snoring can be greatly reduced, with a laser treatment that is fast, with results that are instant, and without any pain at all. Here’s the proof.
Most people don’t realize that they have a metal allergy. They also don’t realize that standard braces contain nickel and the wires contain nickel titanium.
This patient had a severe inflammatory reaction to the braces from another dentist. She was probably told by the dentist that she wasn’t brushing enough around her brackets – when in fact it was due to an allergy.
This patient had undersized lateral incisors. Moonlight Beach Dental replaced them with 2 normal-sized veneers in 2.5 hours and with minimal anesthetic.
When a root canals is not properly sealed, it can become infected with abscesses, causing all kinds of sickness throughout the body.
Most incredibly, this patient reported no pain in her teeth!
It might not look like it, but this right here is a thing of beauty.
What is it? This is a PRF membrane. It’s made from your own blood,
Gum disease, aka Periodontal disease, is the inflammation of gum tissue caused by tartar (essentially a calcified mat of bacteria).
Here’s how to prevent and treat gum disease.
Did you know that a vitamin D3 / K2 deficiency is associated with proper bone health and skeletal development? Or that vitamin D3 is essential for healing from any dental surgery?
A new study from the University of Bergen suggests the bacteria associated with gingivitis contributes to the development of Alzheimer’s Disease.
It makes me extremely happy and proud to have satisfied patients – and that’s why I wanted to re-visit some of the videos featuring our patients.
This patient drove 5 hours for a consult here at Moonlight Beach Dental. She had a tooth removed 6 months ago, and she wanted the tooth replaced in a conservative and natural way. It turns out that the doctor who took her tooth out damaged the bone, so she could not be a candidate for an implant.
StellaLife has a homeopathic mouthwash and gel that is used for post-operative care, the relief of pain and faster healing. I really like this product and I use it in my practice.
One of the reasons I find myself so passionate about holistic dentistry is that I personally suffer from mercury toxicity and thyroid disease.
During dental extractions and other procedures, some of the typical materials used are from cadavers or cow bone. With Platelet Rich Fibrin, we make restorative materials from your own blood.
If you have dental aligners like Invisalign, retainers, night guards, dental sports guards or dental sleep apnea devices, you might be wondering how to clean them. Moonlight Beach Dental now offers a product called Steraligner.
In this post, I talk about a laser treatment that is highly effective at opening up the airway and reducing problems from sleep apnea and snoring. It also happens to be completely painless and requires no anesthetic. My patient Brian discusses what the treatment is like, how it worked for him, and you’ll actually get to see the treatment happening.
In my last post, I talked about some of the alternatives to CPAP machines available to those who suffer from sleep apnea. In this post, I speak with Brian, a patient who has obstructive sleep apnea and snoring problems. I created a dental device for him that juts the lower jaw slightly forward during sleep,…
Many people with sleep apnea don’t know that there are alternatives to CPAP machines. In this video, I talk about some of the device alternatives to CPAP machines that trained dentists can supply to help treat sleep apnea.
After a bad tooth repair at another dentist, this patient decided to only let me restore her teeth for her upcoming wedding. So she flew in for 2 days!
If you have dental insurance, you might assume it will pretty much cover everything at the dentist, right? Nope. It doesn’t work like that. At all.
Myofunctional therapy has to do with exercises for the facial muscles that are used to chew and swallow, so that people can develop more normal oral health, speech and swallowing.
I recently filmed this video to talk about ozone treatments in dentistry, and how ozone can benefit patients across different applications. Enjoy.
The company that makes some of my ozone equipment wanted me to do a video with me where I talk about what I love about ozone. So here that is. Enjoy.
What is dentistry going to be like in 10 years? There’s of a study going on right now at Temple University that uses stem cells to regrow the pulp-dentin complex that makes up the center of the tooth. 10 years from now, instead of going to the endodontist for a root canal to remove the pulp, you will go to regrow the pulp and nerves within the tooth.
As you can see, my son couldn’t be happier that there is a new gelato shop called Gelato 101 located across the street from our office.
You can see me repping the Culture Brewing hat, and I love their new tasting room on the 101.
I’m always about the local Encintas flavor.
This handsome guy got a new smile in just a year! See how his crooked teeth and a deep bite were corrected in just a year.
It’s pretty cool when you see your name and the business you’ve built listed in San Diego Magazine’s 2019 Best of North County San Diego List.
We didn’t even know about this honor until recently. It’s not something we knew about, campaigned for or paid for. So that’s really cool.
Thank you, San Diego Magazine.
At 75 years of age, this patient decided she was ready for a change. In a pre-veneer appointment, we performed a smile design mock up. This involves a wax up and photos to design a smile that can be transferred to the mouth, without even having to commit to touching the teeth.
Here is a great before and after case. The patient is a 70 year-old male who came in because he was unhappy with the wear and chipping on his teeth. If you look at the pic of the occlusal (reverse) view of the teeth, you can see that the teeth were almost worn through to the nerve.
Silver fillings (also known as amalgams) release low levels of mercury vapor into the body. While the position of the American Dental Association is that amalgam is safe to use, there is increasing evidence that amalgam may not be safe at all.
Today, courtesy of this article over at Science Magazine, we focus on evolutionary biology, and how farming and soft food allowed your jaw to develop an overbite and pronounce F and V sounds.
Located just a block away from Moonlight Beach Dental, Modern Times opened something late last year called the Far West Lounge. This is a tasting room for Modern Times’ beer, but they also have an assortment of plant-based cuisine. You’ll love the chic 70’s decor.
I recently had my own blood spun in order to create Platelet-Poor Plasma (PPP) and Platelet-rich plasma (PRP).From there, these are used as a natural filler – to fill in fine lines and wrinkles.PRP/PPP can also be used for acne scars, lip plumping and hair regrowth.
This poor fella had some teeth crowding that was causing wear and grinding. After just 10 months of Invisalign, he looks like a new person. Both he and his wife are very pleased.
This patient came in for a laser treatment to reduce his snoring. He didn’t realize his airway was almost completely closed. In a single visit, we opened up his airway!
The wine and coffee I drink are really a lot to manage when it comes to keeping my own teeth white.
That’s why I decided to do a 30-day test of charcoal toothpaste – to see if how well it actually whitens my teeth.
Late last year, I introduced a program to help people in Encinitas save money at the dentist.
What I don’t think I adequately conveyed at the time is that it actually saves people money.
Here’s how.
Did you know Moonlight Beach Dental can help eliminate snoring issues – in a painless way?
Nightlase is a laser treatment of benefit to people that do not feel rested (even when wearing a CPAP machine), and it can even eliminate snoring.
How many dentists have a health library in their office?
I’m always interested in new information and new studies. And I like to share what I’m reading and interested in here in the office.
With this before and after story, the patient decided to make her new year’s resolution in 2018 a new year’s reality in 2019. See the before and after photos of 1 year of Invisalign.
As a part of our wellness program for both patients and staff, we installed an air-filtration system to help reduce the number of harmful aerosols that are created during dental appointments.
Infections are particularly scary because they can remain hidden, and dental infections can be more serious than most people know.
This patient had broken his front teeth due to his bite.
We started Invisalign in order to be able to eventually do veneers. Mid-treatment, I did some bonding without any numbing in order to rebuild the teeth, so that I can finalize the esthetics and the bite before doing veneers.
We did such a good job – I am not even sure he will do the veneers!
Before, this patient had 2 teeth that were not sized well compared to the others.
With minimal, no prep veneers, we changed his smile in less than 3 hours.
This was a simple case. And simple can mean a big difference aesthetically.
We replaced these older fillings using a lighter shade, so that we could make her a new retainer.
It made a HUGE difference in her smile… in just 1 hour!
As you can see from the photos below, this dad had a lot of worn and chipped bonding.
Although we only re-did 4 of his teeth, his entire smile and face has changed. He is ecstatic!
I just found this article from The Los Angeles Times on why holistic dentists are on the rise.
The article kind of acts like a holistic dentistry 101 course, so if you’re interested, head on over to check it out.
In just 30 minutes, and with minimal anesthetic, we raised this patients gumline using our new laser.
People are always wowed that we can do permanent dental work, quickly, in a single visit – and at the same time address fear with sedation. And they should be! Check out this guy who cracked a tooth but he had to leave the country in 2 days. No problem.
It feels great helping people, and it’s especially nice when someone takes the time to express some kind words.
We received a letter from our patient Linda the other day, and I wanted to share some of it here.
This patient has adult orthodontics to correct a traumatic bite that was causing severe recession and enamel loss. Unfortunately, his teeth were worn in a slanted pattern. So we leveled that, and then restored the worn enamel, and gave him a new and improved bite!
Ahh! What is that, you say? This here is an extracted tooth with a little something extra on it. The patient came in for a different treatment, but we noticed a “pimple” that was draining on the gum. That pimple was a fistula, and it was pus draining from a failing root canal that was performed years prior at another dentist.
Would you want this crown in your mouth?
Many dentists leave old fillings underneath the crown. These fillings are broken down and the reason for the crown was necessary in the first place!
Read more about this case and see more pictures.
Dr. Mercola is a leading name in holistic dentistry.
A few weeks ago he posted this article, which has been re-posted below.
Yesterday, I received the following email, and I wanted to share it.
It really brings home the importance of making sure your dentist follows strict safety protocols when removing mercury fillings.
You may have noticed we keep xylitol candies for you to sample in our office. These are all-natural, sugar-free, and have vegetable-derived coloring. They taste good. But why are they here? They prevent tooth decay. Here’s how.
A couple days ago, I used our new laser to remove this huge cyst around a failed root canal. With the laser, No drills were used, and the procedure was painless. (Still want to go to your “regular” dentist?)
This patient was unhappy with her veneers that were done 10 years ago. The contour, color and esthetics were off.
When she came to Moonlight Beach Dental to have them redone, she had many holistic needs that required specific numbing and material selection.
What is a biologic dentist? What makes them different?
This video discusses these topics and how a biologic dentist benefits you.
This patient was under the regular care of another dentist who poorly placed an implant 2 years ago. That implant almost immediately failed.
The dentist also did not address the failing infected root canals, the pus around the implant, or the extensive decay eroding her teeth.
Last week I mentioned that we had two big announcements to make. The first of those was the Moonlight Beach Dental Savings Plan, our in-house solution for those that don’t have (or want) dental insurance to receive regular, quality dental care at the most reasonable pricing possible. The second is that we have purchased a…
The future of dentistry is here! PRF (platelet rich fibrin) is created from your own cells, and in dentistry, it can be used to heal and repair infected areas in your mouth.
Here’s a rundown.
Every day, people are becoming more aware of the position that dental insurance is not worth paying for out of pocket. Even if you’re in a best-case situation where your employer pays for your dental insurance, it’s a sad day for you when you realize that dental insurance is less like actual insurance and more…
Go local!
Meet Jake, one of the founders of an all-natural SPF, Organic Surfscreen.
They are at the farmer’s market at Paul Ecke Central every Sunday.
I’ve tried and love all of their products. They are also very inexpensive.
This patient came in to our office 2 days after a dentist at another practice made her veneer temporaries for the second time for her front 6 teeth.
She was unhappy with the temporaries, and did not want to proceed with his work.
We restarted the case, removing decay that was left behind, and you can see how simply changing only the front 5 changed her entire smile!
This patient went to Mexico to get “cheap dental work”. He got what he paid for: More problems and expense created by the poor work. See the photos.
Over 10 years ago, this patient had some facial trauma as a child, and had 4 crowns done by her childhood dentist to fix it. As gorgeous as she already is, the crowns were too “gummy”, and appeared grey underneath from the way they had been done.
We redid just 4 of them, and now her veneers match her youth, they’re whiter and brighter, and the tissue has adapted much better around these.
Rocking my aligners!
They are so clear and transparent that you can’t even tell I have them in!
If you’re experiencing extreme wear of your teeth, know that it’s not normal. Here’s a review of some cases of extreme wear, and what was done to help the patient.
If you are extremely anxious or fearful about dentistry, we can talk about options to put you comfortably asleep while we work on your teeth. Another possible option is conscious sedation – which, for most people, makes it so you don’t remember much of your visit.
